Alberta’s Critical Worker Benefit Program

Do you have an employee who deserves to be rewarded for their exemplary work ethic during these difficult times? Thousands of critical service workers have made it possible for Canadians to stay safe and receive the care and critical services they need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To recognize the hard work and courage of such critical service workers in Alberta, the provincial government has launched the Critical Worker Benefit Program. Eligible Albertans will receive a one-time payment of $1,200 in recognition of their hard work.

The Benefit will be distributed to more than 380,000 workers in the public healthcare, social services, and education sectors. In the private sector, workers who deliver critical basic services to Albertans, or support food and medical supply chains, would be eligible for the Benefit.

How do I apply?

Public sector workers who are eligible need not apply to the Program. The Alberta government is working directly with public sector employers to distribute the Benefit to eligible employees.

However, private sector employers must apply on behalf of their eligible employees. They can apply using the application portal, which will open for applications on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. The last day to apply to the program will be Friday, March 19, 2021.
